Godanti Bhasma

Godanti Bhasma is a mineral-based ayurvedic medicine prepared from Gypsum. It is rich in natural calcium and sulfur content. According to ayurveda, Godanti Bhasma is beneficial for high-grade fever (also known as PITTAJ JWARA in ayurveda), headache, chronic fever, malaria, vaginitis, leucorrhea, excessive uterine bleeding, non-productive cough and bleeding disorders.

Ayurvedic physicians also use it for high blood pressure, headache due to hypertension, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, constipation, indigestion, low bone mineral density, osteoporosis, cough and asthma.

The preparation process of Godanti Bhasma involves following steps.

Purification of Gypsum
Grinding and pulverizing to make fine powder of gypsum
Grinding and triturating the gypsum powder with Aloe Vera juice
Making small and thin cakes
Heating and calcining the thin cakes in earthen pots under high temperature around 200 to 500 degree celcius
Note:

Some ayurvedic physicians also use lemon juice, leaves or calotropis procera and neem leaves instead of Aloe Vera juice.
Godanti Bhasma prepared with juice of neem leaves is known as Neem Godanti. It is beneficial in typhoid fever and chronic fevers.
Chemical Composition
Godanti is a soft calcium and sulfur mineral compound. Chemically, it is calcium sulfate dihydrate.

Chemical Formula: CaSO4·2H2O

Godanti bhasma dosage varies from 125 mg to 1 gram depending on the health condition and age of the patient.

Caution & Side Effects
Long-term use of Godanti Bhasma can cause liver dysfunction. Therefore, you should not use it for more than a month continuously.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Godanti Bhasma is POSSIBLY SAFE in pregnancy and breastfeeding for a short-term use (less than 4 weeks). The safety of long-term use is not yet established, so avoid using it for a longer period or more than 4 weeks continuously.

Contraindications
Godanti Bhasma is contraindicated in liver disorders and hypercalcemia.
